This will fail miserably; Tar does not support storing translator
information in an archive.
By default, only a minimum number of translators are created in /dev.
Normally, one uses MAKEDEV to create the other devices.
Again, you have a few options, fix tar (this should not be hard,
however, I have not yet done it) or you tell us what you are trying to
do and we can try to help.
