I have two 486s. One runs GNU/Linux and is basically working as a router.
The other is running the Hurd. In normal work there doesn't seem to be any
real difference. Compiling is noticeably slower. I don't have any other
intensive applications installed yet to try. It seems fairly stable as well.
It's only locked once on a make install (gcc, I think) after compiling
several packages without being rebooted.
They run slow as dirt, but they run just fine. :)
I did have one question, though. I was testing out the size limits after
all the MAXPATHLEN, etc. stuff was mentioned. When I run 'touch' with more
than 255 characters (touch ALT+256 z, for example), it locks up. Was I
misunderstanding the limits? I'm running off of the Sept 25th, 2000
tarball. If gdb is involved in a solution, please give me a quick line to
use with it so I don't muck it up. Thanks! :)
