Because you haven't implemented it. :-)

   large effort is needed to enable audio, via e.g alsa?

It would be a huge job to do it.  First you'd need to port drivers to
Mach, then you'd need to write libchannel (libstore but for stream
instead of block devices) and do some other stuff that nobody has
pondered about.  Search the archives, and check the TODO file etc,
there was some discussion about it, but in general you are on your own
in how to figure it all out.
