Getting started in Hurd Development

Hi all,
I'm new to the list, but I'm very interested in operating system 
development.  After reading up on Mach and Hurd I wanted to become a 
part of the development of it. My only problem is I need a little 
guidance on where to begin with it. I'm okay at coding but I don't know 
C well enough IMO, I'm really good at writing documentation, other than 
that I'm not too sure. I've never worked on an open source project 
before could someone give me a little help in getting started?
