5.3.1 Using One Shell
If .ONESHELL is provided, then only the first line of the recipe will
be checked for the
special prefix characters (address@hidden, ‘-’, and ‘+’).

Why the manual mentions - or + only? how about other characters? If I
define > as the prefix character, second, third and other lines will
be checked like the first line?
