Regarding the technical issue: the limitation of 'prerequisites only!'
may be fine, depending on what you're doing with it.  If you have
concerns, well, you should inform your technical lead how the choice
of filenames ("contain colons") and the choice of tool ("make")
conflict, meaning there are limitations on what the tool can be used
for with those files.  Maybe it's a problem to be solved right now by
instituting strict(er) rules on filenames used ("POSIX portable
filenames only!"), maybe it needs to be solved right not be migrating
to a different tool, maybe it just needs to be noted as something that
will need to be solved later, or maybe it'll never be a problem.
