Unless someone objects, I'd prefer the list. Other people might profit
from it later.

Which repositories do you have activated? Most Octave things are in
Ubuntu's universe.

Uh, no. At least not in the way you probably think (i.e., one .exe).

I'd propose to start with the packaged versions (if only to get all
dependencies installed).
Check for a packge called 'octave2.9-headers'.
