I can't reproduce this with octave 3.2.4 on wxp:
> edit plot
> edit plot.m
both open the existing 'plot.m'
> edit "myfunc.m"
> edit myfunc
both create a new function 'myfunc' and open it in the editor.
which function do you try to edit, and it fails?
