Dear Taban, welcome to the help-octave mailing list.
You should always post a piece of source (as small as possible) which
can be used to reproduce the error or your to show problem.
first = 2;
works for me, so it is morke likely that there is another syntax error
in your code. Also please add a "SOLVED" to the topic if your ploblem
was solved. Thanks.
