What fid did you pass to it? A typical example would look like:
> fid = fopen('myawesomefile.text', 'w');
> fprintf(fid, 'I am awesome.\n');
> fclose(fid);
In a decent program, you should probably check that fid is not -1,
which means that it was unable to open the file.
