gnuplot works much better than fltk in that regard. I also switched to
PNG... thanks for the hints!
An issue that I have now with gnuplot is that I'd like to plot a 3d plot
from three directions: tilted, side and front. Now for the side&front plots
the axis captions as well as the axis ticks for the x/y axis are quite
ugly...:

To fix this I could set "axis('labelz', 'tic')" and manually label the x/y
axis&tics... but is there an easier way around? (this issue I didn't have
with fltk, I guess I could also switch to that for these plots)
