I actually started my scientific calculations several years ago with Scilab
rather than Octave.
At the same time I read the documentation (on signal package/toolbox) which I
found educational and well put.
There are some interesting Scilab DSP packages - e.g. minimum phase package or
something like this. AFAIK there is no such package for Octave.
Scilab language is pretty close to Octave one, so provided the underlying
functions are present in both tools Scilab -> Octave translation is pretty
straightforward.
Today I use Octave, but I am still building Scilab (and, of course, Octave)
from sources - just in case.
Regards,
Sergei.
