Yes, that must be it. I replaced MingW 4.7.2 with version 4.6.2 and now
everything is fine.
So now my follow-up question is: is there a way to configure Octave to use
an installation of MingW in a particular path, such that I can install two
different versions (4.6.2 for Octave and 4.7.2 for all my other work, this
one will be in the Windows PATH)?
