I downloaded the package from http and here is the output

octave:1> pkg install statistics-1.2.0.tar.gz
warning: creating installation directory /usr/local/share/octave/packages
error: the following dependencies where unsatisfied:
   statistics needs io >= 1.0.18

So is there any automated way for resolving the dependencies?

It's "statistics" not "statistic"
