I am wondering if we really talk about the same thing when referring to
"documentation". Using the documentation browser of the gui or typing
"help command" you will find the command syntax with explaining text
instead of only listing the commands.
You can also use the online documentation at
http://www.gnu.org/software/octave/doc/interpreter/
or the pdf at
http://www.gnu.org/software/octave/octave.pdf
