Dear Sir,
I have downloaded Ocatve 4.0.0.tar.gz and also octave4.0.0.tar.xz from
"ftp://ftp.gnu.org/gnu/octave/" I could not able to install using package
installer. It shows it is not a package. I have tried in different ways to install by
going through some web sites. But I could not able to install. Since I am new to linux
system I need your help to install it. I will be very thankful if I get step by step
procedure.
Ps; I am running cent os 6 through VMware Player.
Thanks
Ramesh
octave4.0.0.tar.xz is a source package. No linux binary packages exist on
official website.
Perhaps CentOS users will give more information.

I am running octave on several CentOS 6.5, CentOS 6.6 systems. I
had to temporarily disable the repository list, install the epel
repository, them yum install octave and the hdf5 (if I remember
correctly) packages. Be sure to install octave and the supporting
packages from the same repository. When I used soft links to the
support packages, the links were broken on a subsequent octave
update. I realize this email is somewhat vague but I hope it
helps get you started.
Talk to you later. Ron.
