Sorry about this, I cannot share the errors due to problem (b), the sendmail function did not work I have to have a second look at it, I am guessing it is a configuration problem.

I cannot re-compile octave, and, I am using Ubuntu version 3.13.0-32, I was hoping for a quick fix of some sort, but I was dreaming I guess.

It is hard to say, since you do not share the errors during the compilation.

What unix are you using (linux maybe?)?

did you try:

- adding the ppa?

- sudo apt-get buildep octave

and then compiling.

without the errors is impossible to know what is the issue. Can't you not type the error message in a mail?
