Dear list,
I run some very complicated sampling in parallel on a Xubuntu (16.04)
machine. With "complicated sampling" I mean that my calculations are
influenced by noise and thus I do them over and over again to see how
that noise affects my calculations.
With "in parallel" I mean that I have 4 real cores which I all use with
the help of the programm "parallel --semaphore". This will launh
exactly 4 identical jobs, waits until one completes and launches another
one.
My calculations are both memory and time intense. I expect more than ten
hours of runtime and around 2GiB of memory consumption for each job.
Almost everything works fine, but sometimes some jobs just don't quit.
I had some running over 10 days now. Is there anything I can do to find
out why some jobs just don't stop?
Thank you all very much.
sincerly, Max Görner
