Still I don't really get, why you want to cross compile? I assume, after
setting up your ubuntu 14.04 on your dell desktop computer, you opened a
command prompt and typed "sudo apt-get install octave" to install
http://packages.ubuntu.com/trusty/octave , right? Or where did you get your
Octave 4.0.2 version from?
