Yes, I checked in a couple of changes. Now the configure script has
OCTAVE_CHECK_LIB(pcre, PCRE,
[], [pcre.h pcre/pcre.h], [pcre_compile], [], [], [],
[libpcre], [REQUIRED])
the help text is
--with-pcre-includedir=DIR
look for PCRE include files in DIR
--with-pcre-libdir=DIR look for PCRE libraries in DIR
--with-pcre=<lib> use PCRE library <lib>
and configure fails with an error message if the PCRE library is not
found or if you try to use --without-pcre.
I hope this is fixed now.
