Actually I'm also facing the same problem so can you please help in figuring
this out.
Udacity is using 
function index=find_template_1D(t,s)
      c=normxcorr2(t,s);
      [maxValue rawIndex]=max(c);
      index=rawIndex-size(t,2)+1;
endfunction

but still i'm getting index value as 4
