OpenGL and ssh tunneling

I run Octave on a remote server that I tunnel into via

ssh -X server_IP

I get great plots using the gnuplot toolkit, but strange results using qt.  Is this because ssh can't deal with openGL, is there any way around it?

I realize this is not an Octave issue, but perhaps someone has an idea??
