Log Bloat

I see many syslog entries that appear to be from/about octave.  I do not 
use octave gui.  However, there is a 'octave --no-gui' running in an xterm.

Is this from octave?  How do I stop it?  Will removing
/usr/local/share/applications/www.octave.org-octave.desktop
eliminate the log entries?
