Thanks for sharing those threads. I realize that the issues in pkg may not be something I can work on. I am still a beginner here and would like something nicer to start with.

Ok, please always keep the mailing list copied. At first glance the patch looks ok, although I'm not able to check it out at the moment. Everyone on that bug report should have gotten an email when you submitted it and the maintainers will review it when they can.
