Build a bank of bandpass linear-phase FIR filters
FFT is the ultimate FIR filter.Again, with FFT, which is cheap on modern CPUs, the OP has unlimited freedom of experimentation. Creating a bandpass filter is trivial.
"The uniform bins don't play nice with EKG/EEG signals" - why/how ? Especially in the context of proposed FIR filters. Anyway, input signal can be trivially upsampled, and output signal can be trivially downsampled. Upsampling increases number of bins thus improving frequency resolution.
