[Info-gnu-c-manual] file & dir listing

hello.

i wonder if there is some basic way to list the contents of a directory in a 
c/c++ program similar to the the FindFirstFile and FindNextFile functions 
under windows32. i tried to analyze the code of the ls program but failed to 
find anything like a function that would provide me with the names of the 
files, links and subdirs inside a directory.
