Ah great! I'd recommend going for the R2010 DWG read support. Python
bindings I personally don't feel can act as a 3 month work ( Other's
opinion may vary ) and is not of much priority as compared to R2010
read support ( Again my views ).

As said above compile and try to use the library. Get familiar with
the code. Get a copy of Open Design Alliance Reverse engineered DWG
specs and try to understand how it works.
