I have an old and/or outdated license for my public content posted at
various websites. I am researching the various open-source/libre
licenses, and the topic of free culture (I've seen very little on
this, is it relatively new?).
I should check to see about the differences between CC BY-SA 4.0
(http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/4.0/legalcode) and CC BY-SA
3.0 (http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/3.0/legalcode), for
starters.
Libreplanet.org uses GNU Free Documentation License 1.3
creativecommons.org uses Creative Commons Attribution 4.0
International license.
theopensourceway.org is run by Red Hat, Inc. and apparently uses CC
BY-SA 3.0. They place restrictions, so I don't know if this is abiding
by Creative Commons licensing contract. I surmise that they have a
legal team and so apparently they _may_ do this, but then if the Red
Hat, Inc's restrictions are legal and/or legally binding and
reasonable, why doesn't Creative Commons incorporate this into their
licensing?
Furthermore, if an organization (*cough* Fedora Project *cough*) that
is ostensibly open-source/libre and allegedly makes membership of
their organization contingent upon surrendering certain rights
stipulated in said open-source/libre Creative Commons and/or related
open/libre licensing, I don't see why someone would consent to this.
Thoughts?
