Heya all!

Exciting news this morning! A brand new version of MediaGoblin has been
released... 0.4.0, Hall of the Archivist!

http://mediagoblin.org/news/mediagoblin-0.4.0-hall-of-the-archivist.html

The wait was worth it: this new release includes presentation support.
Want to upload that novel you're working on? Or maybe there's that
presentation you gave at that conference? Or perhaps you've got an
academic article, and you'd like to use MediaGoblin as a journal
collection? MediaGoblin will show it beautifully in the browser using
pdf.js! And not just PDF files either; MediaGoblin will accept almost
any document LibreOffice can convert (your original file will of course
also be available).

In addition, there's a new plug-in infrastructure, more human-readable
timestamps and... what am I writing this here for? You should check out
the post!

Relatedly, there's been a lot of discussion lately about PRISM and the
impacts these issues have on user freedom. We wrote up a blogpost about
that:

http://mediagoblin.org/news/on-prism.html

... suddenly that "police robot scanning and deactivating nodes" part of
our campaign video feels more chillingly real than ever. But there's a
way forward, and we're working towards it. Relatedly, our friend Libby
Reinish, super awesome campaigns manager at the FSF, co-wrote a story
about this... MediaGoblin gets a mention! Maybe you ought to read it,
and pass it along to your friends?

By the way, are you looking for a good way to break out of the
PRISM-industrial-complex? Prism Break has a good guide:

http://prism-break.org/

Well that's it for now... we've got a lot more going on, so I'd better
get to it!

Rock on, and stay free!
