Sure, but if it works out in Unity and they don't get enough negative feedback on it, you can bet it'll start showing up in other forms in other environments. Technically, yes, it's overstated, but I feel that's only temporary.

Thus if one is using Kubuntu, or even regular Ubuntu with some other window manager than Unity, then it won't be spying on you?

I realize that this doesn't address the basic ethical questions, but I'm wondering if the actual problem isn't being overstated?
