It seems to me that getting media attention became a way to avoid
corporate or state covert operations' violence to their full-extent:
where the hostile entity cannot use impunity by fear of too much
exposition in the media, it tends to temporize its action ; but where
media attention lacks, all kinds of exactions are committed--E.g.,
indigenous tribes in the Amazon forest vs. mining companies, or more
recently, what's happening in Peru with the natural gas fields in the
"reserved" spaces. Do you think it's a viable strategy for activist
groups to build their own communications infrastructure and avoid
isolation from the Internet and the media using free software, and
eventually free hardware technologies?
