The next meeting is on Saturday, September 21. This, not
coincidentally, is Software Freedom Day. Any suggestions on what to
do? I was thinking of an install party, potentially coordinated with
GSLUG, but am open to ideas.
It appears that the organizers of Software Freedom Day will again be
distributing proprietary software and spyware in the form of Ubuntu.
It seems an ironic thing to do on Software Freedom Day.
If an install party happens I recommend that we only use GNU+Linux
distros endorsed by the FSF: https://gnu.org/distros/free-distros.html
Thoughts? Ideas? Anything else?
So, what's the plan for SFD?
LibrePlanet-US-WA and SFD are both on 9/21.
GSLUG is 9/14.

TA3M-Seattle is 9/16.
https://wiki.openitp.org/events:techno-activism_3rd_mondays:seattle
And Jason is TA3M-Seattle 1st speaker! The other speaker will be giving
out TAILs distro, on CDs and thumbdrives, to the audience. It'd be nice
if we could hand out some of the SFD-based distros after Jason's talk,
as well.
What distro(s) were selected for use at SFD? Ubuntu, Mint, Debian,
Trisquel, or another listed on GNU's Free Distro List were all mentioned
in the thread.
As well as OpenCD (a collection of Windows binaries of Free Software),
which is no longer active. OpenDisc sounds/looks similar:
http://www.theopendisc.com/
But I've not used it. Last updated a few days ago, in time for SFD.
Could someone ask a GNU/Windows friend if this is legit/useful, and
virus-check a current disc with some up-to-date virus scanners more
powerful than ClamAV?
Besides the (LibrePlanet-US-WA, GSLUG, and TA3M-Seattle) monthly
meetings, are there plans for SFD to be celebrated locally anywhere else?
I can contribute a stack of CD-Rs and DVD-Rs to the burning. I don't
have any mass-burning hardware, does anyone have one of those?
Thanks.
