One (non-cheap) alternative is to install Autoconf and Automake under
the same prefix as Libtool.

Ah, sorry about that. I somehow assumed your project uses something
like AC_CONFIG_MACRO_DIR([m4]) in configure.ac and
'ACLOCAL_AMFLAGS = -I m4' in Makefile.am.

The warning is harmless, unlike the rest:

That looks wrong. Hmm, weird. Could be a bug in libtool.m4, I'd need
to test that.
