This example is the "standard" - not the default - if you click on it
you see it uses:
\set figuredBassAlterationDirection = #RIGHT
\set figuredBassPlusDirection = #RIGHT
\override BassFigureAlignment.stacking-dir = #DOWN
and the first of these is what you need.
