Thanks,
I downloaded the latest driver code alsa-driver-0.9.0rc1 from ALSA.
I configured and compiled the code. However when i try to issue command

/sbin/modprobe snd-ac97-codec
i got the following error

/lib/modules/2.4.2-2/kernel/sound/acore/snd.o: unresolved symbol vsnprintf
/lib/modules/2.4.2-2/kernel/sound/acore/snd.o: insmod
/lib/modules/2.4.2-2/kernel/sound/acore/snd.o failed
/lib/modules/2.4.2-2/kernel/sound/acore/snd.o: insmod snd-ac97-codec failed

I think this is the problem for the unresolved symbol vsnprintf in my kernel
( probably that symbol is not exported).
In the INSTALL file they said the kernel has to be fully configured but
doesn't say anything if it doesn't what to do.

Can u pls tell me how to re-compile the kernel or to do appropriate steps to
make it work.

Will be grateful if u do so.
Thanx and regds
karthik

It is recommended to use alsa drivers (http://www.alsa-project.org) .
There are many problems with the intel ac97 driver of the linux kernel.
Do it, check that the snd-pcm-oss module is loaded, and then it will
work better. (I have intel ac97 also.)
