Yes that is OSS driver with BUFFERs reduced to 512 bytes as in ALSA.
So the problem may not be with buffering.
I guess Vasanth is doing experiments on Wireless networks. And due to
heavy usage in the daytime he is experiencing low througput as compared to
night.
