The feature you are talking is implemented. I don't why you didn't see
it. The condition is that you entered a proxy configuration in the
property box, and this proxy configuration is used by selecting the
corresponding identity at the bottom of the main window.

For example, I have a proxy configuration like this:
Identity: sip:address@hidden
Proxy: sip:freephonie.net

When sip:address@hidden is selected as current identity in the
main window, then I can just enter any phone number YYYYYYYYY to the URI
field, and it works.
