BTW, if you run Solaris, chances are you do have Type1 fonts for your
locale. Check if SUNWi<X>of package is installed, where <X> is your
8859 number. You'll find fonts and AFMs in
/usr/openwin/lib/locale/iso_8859_<X>/X11/fonts/Type1
/usr/openwin/lib/locale/iso_8859_<X>/X11/fonts/Type1/afm
respectively.
NB: Note the underscore after "iso"! There's a set of directories
iso8859_<X> (w/out an underscore) - that's not what you're looking
for.
