        You should review the rules for adding prefixes and/or suffixes
based on your URL_DOMAIN_PREFIXES and URL_DOMAIN_SUFFIXES definitions,
as explained in lynx.cfg.  If you did not include "lynx" in your
URL_DOMAIN_PREFIXES definition, expecting that it will be tried on
the basis of ESP is sub-optimal. :) :) :)

        Try   lynx lynx.browser.   and figure out why that does work
(and why it needs the dot on the end).
