I'm growing tired of working on trying to compile Lynx 2.6. Everytime,
it's either the same errors or new errors and I now lack the time and the
patience to deal with it. I'm on a system that it itself does not know
what it is!!
Unless the GIANT SysAdm's finally let their hair down and upgrade, or if
I can use their ancient "This Hypertext Document not available at this
time" version of Lynx and find a Pre-Compiled UnixWare Lynx2.6 binary
somewhere ( which will be a bite in the ass considering the faulty version
of Lynx already installed, and the simple fact that I have only recieved
ONE E-Mail message since my whole time on GIANT and wont ever recieve
another one because the I'm considered "user unknown" by the Sender's
Mailer Daemon ) on FTP or HTTP, then I might have a little luck.
If that does not work, I going to have to bug the GIANT SysAdm's on
either a full system upgrade, or for them to provide any and all
information in detail what I would need to do to do it myself. If that is
fruitless, my GIANT account will be terminated and I will find someother
service that listens (or if Netscape somehow miraculously becomes
available for IBM XT Turbos).
Pardon me for sounding "George Carlin-esque", but the Internet is
referered to as "The Information SuperHighway". How can this be when some
pages "restrict" their information unless you happen to have a $2000
unit, a good paying job, and either Internet Ex-Horror or Net-scrape,
Java, Frames, or any kind of new gadget that makes the "SuperHighway"
easier to surf but slower than Pepto-Bismal?! It sounds like a kingdom
against itself??? (That's what some of these people WISH you had).
Upgrading computers is easier said than done, and I'm not so sure I would
want to upgrade since watching a Pentium open up a lot of GIF's for a
single WebPage makes my arteries harden.
I'll stick to a "dumb" terminal and Lynx, and I wish to thank everyone
involved with Lynx-Dev and to those that have helped me try to get this
going, even though the results were fruitless ( Larry Virden, Thanh Ma,
Hiram, and everyone else ).
I'm not bitter over a wasted month - I'm happy. It was an experiance I
needed. And anyway, I will always have more time than money! =)
Thanks, Everyone & with luck, the tree might just bare some fruit soon.
Sincerely,
