I've used PDCurses a while back.  It's based on SVr3, rather than SVr4.
While I'm familiar with the SVr4 design, the only detail that I'm aware
of that really _differs_ between SVr3 and SVr4 is that to make filled
(color) backgrounds on SVr4 you must set the background attribute.  The
function that's used for doing that is new with SVr4.  PDCurses fills
backgrounds anyway, so it's a simple #ifdef to accommodate the change.

(that's assuming there's no bugs in PDCurses to accommodate, of course)
