What's this supposed to be? A bug report?
Without mentioning such unimportant details as Operating System?
Not mentioning whether this also happens in the bug-fixed or experimental
code, or at least that you haven't checked?
You can do better.

Anyway, there's a problem in LYUtils.c, patch will follow in separate
mail. That deals only with preventing the fatal error, not with changing
the treatment or usablility of files named '~' in any way.
