Paul-
Good news! I fixed the core dumping problem on SunOS 4.1.3 by installing
just gethostbyname.o from the jumbo libc patch. I didn't use your
workaround. Recall that the problem occurs when accessing certain URLs.
I extracted gethostbyname.o (actually, I extracted all of gethostent.o,
gethostid.o, gethostname.o, sethostname.o) from the international jumbo
libc patch 100891-13 for SunOS 4.1.3. 4.1.3_U1 has a separate international
jumbo libc patch 101558-09. The patches can be gotten from the following
and mirror sites around the world.

I relinked lynx 2.7 using the extracted objects and did nothing else.
I have a suspicion that cookies may be the critical ingredient since both
offending Web sites have them. The two URLs were http://www.nytimes.com/
and http://www.crl.com/~subir/lynx/lynx_help/lynx_help_main.html.
