I'd start by looking to see exactly where in the code the problem occurs.
Much of the time, that's enough. If not, I try to print out variables that
might be a problem, and finally, back up to a working version and compare.
So for a start, I'd make the build script generate listing files (if it isn't
already), since the line numbers there are the ones that are reported by
the stack dump. (Not knowing what type of development tools you have, this
is the easy way, I can recommend DEC's debugger only if you've used it before).
