Have you tried the free Perl utility html2ps.  I believe this can do
2 column output.  It was used to prepare the PS (and PDF) versions
of the HTML4.0 spec and some other W3C documents.  It does need valid
HTML as input (no tag soup option).

On the last point, does Lynx effectively compute a valid parse tree in
tag soup mode (even if it never stores it) and then render that.  If
it does, it might be useful to have an option to output the corrected
HTML.  The alternative is the early Netscape method of acting on tags
out of context.
