the problem is that the page their search sends you to doesn't exist:

<!-- X-URL: http://www.lycos.com/ -->
<BASE HREF="http://www.lycos.com/";>
<HTML><HEAD><TITLE>Lycos: Your Personal Internet Guide</TITLE></HEAD>
<BODY>
<MAP NAME=navbar>
-- map details omitted --
</MAP><IMG SRC=/assist/graphics/new-logotripod.gif BORDER=0 width=600 height=65
usemap=#navbar ISMAP>
<form ACTION="/cgi-bin/pursuit" METHOD="GET">
              ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
  <input type="hidden" name="matchmode" value="and"><input type="hidden"
name="mtemp" value="pre"><input type="hidden" name="etemp"
value="pre_error"><p>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Search&nbsp;
  &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; <select NAME="cat" size="1">
    <option SELECTED VALUE="lycos">The Web </option>
-- other options omitted --
  </select>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; for:&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; <input TYPE="text"
NAME="query"
  VALUE="" SIZE="20">&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; <input type=submit value="Go Get
It!"></p>
  <p>

&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;
 <a
  HREF="/help/">Help</a>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; <a
  HREF="http://lycospro.lycos.com/lycospro-nojava.html";>Advanced Search</a>
  &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; <a HREF="/search/">Search Features</a> </p>
</form>

when i tried to goto http://www.lycos.com/cgi-bin/pursuit , it was Not Found.
hitting on the link on the page calls up a screen saying the same thing
-- relevant part only -- :

   The webpage you're seeking was not found because:

   1. It may no longer exist
   2. It may have moved to another Web address
   3. It may reside in a restricted area

i'm using Lynx 2-8pre.2, which is generally solid.
