Can you give us an example of a page which uses the technique you
want to use?
As I recall the problem with the prior behavior happens when
people use align=center or align=right thinking it is to be
applied inside a small region and it gets applied across 80
columns.
Yes, the best appearance may be improved by doing what you want,
but won't it degrade the _worst_ appearance significantly?
