If this is a problem, go ahead and back my patch out. I can do the
patch locally. (With hardware memory becoming as cheap as it is [64MB
for <$70], fewer and fewer Japanese are using Lynx, anyway).
This spring (Feb-Mar 1999) I may have the time to do a real test. Fote
has nice code in there for checking for multibytes; maybe I can figure
out how to rip some of it off and stick it in the right place. I think
it would be better than reversing the if clause for ASCII. All I need
to do is add to the if Japanese or Chinese, an "AND multibyte", and that
should close up the hole nicely.
