Works for me on win7 with 2.8.6 version from 2006

C:\Users\stef\Downloads\lynx>echo "<html><body><h1>hello
world</h1></body></html>" | lynx --stdin

So you could use

type example.html | lynx --stdin

add -trace if it's not working and send us the output (don't forget to
include lynx -version)
