I too use lynx with gmail daily.

However when using the link below it just takes me to my gmail account login as 
usual.

This suggests the computer ip is used in part to login by google.

If starting from scratch perhaps the account Karren and I use have been 
grandfathered in without java.

If I try to start a new account I also get the java alert.
